The best choice

Luke 10:42

Only one thing is important. Mary has chosen the better thing and it will not be taken away from her.

We always have a choice. There is always a better choice.

I was speaking to a friend, we were talking about how her week had gone and she mentioned her middle child, a boy, was getting better at decision making.

Not as a toddler, but as a young boy who always has a choice. He has a choice to listen to mum and dad. He has a choice to put his plate in the sink when he’s finished eating and he has been asked too. He has a choice to let his sister choose what to watch on the telly, after being asked too.

He has a choice.

But, he doesn’t always make the right choice. So mum sits him on the naughty step and talks to him. She explains what his choices were and asks him which choice was better. Once it is clear he has understood she encourages him to next time pick the best choice. He’s left on the naughty step for 10 minutes and approximately 10 minutes later the cycle begins again. He’s not naughty, or disruptive, he’s just a child.

We have similar choices to make everyday. The basic concept is the same, but as we matured, so did our choices.

Is your alarm going off? Are you going to stay in bed and snooze it or get up?

Are you going to drink enough water today?

Those dishes are piling up, are you going to do them, or hope someone else sees them?

Your black bin is full. Collection is tomorrow. All the other bins on the street are out.

You know where this last one is going..

These things in the long run can have unexpected and unforeseen consequences. Some of them are trivial really, and don’t actually matter.

There is one choice however that is VITAL.

It’s often, as these other choices are posed as a question.

You may have had it screamed at you in the street.

You may have seen it on a pamphlet.

I hope, someone close to you has asked you.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?

If you have, that’s amazing! You know what to do next! And if you don’t, I’ll just tell you! In Mark 16:15, Jesus told us, all of us, ‘go into the world and preach the gospel to everyone’.

This is as easy as letting people know you are a Christian by telling them, but most importantly showing them through your actions. Sharing your story. Nothing big, scary, life changing to you, but to them it is life.

If you haven’t, let’s take a walk through some scriptures together.

You know those films where they take someone to the future or the past to show them something.

We are going to look at what it’s like for a believer in Jesus Christ.

I’m going to show you, the best choice, I’m not here to convince or convert, I just want to make sure you know all your options.

Spoiler alert, you only two options.

This very impressive list is not exhaustive, read the headliners along with the passages they might have something just for you!

Let’s start with the book of Luke:

CH 3. Baptism to repentance.

CH 8. In weakness press through the crowd, one touch is all it takes.

C9. So you know how much I love you.

CH16. Ensure heavenly future –

unbelievers do! They secure future by investing in money, education, debt forgiveness for favours.

Be generous for the sake of the kingdom.

CH19. Physically blind and spiritually blind.

A crowd will block you- be persistent.

Salvation is waiting, you may have to shout.

Have a willing heart.

Use your talents.

Isiah 61:1–4

The year of the Lord’s favour.

CH54:17

Every tongue which rises against me in judgement I will condemn. The Lord says he is the righteous.

Psalms 30

The Lord will always be there for you, no matter the circumstance, no matter the problem! Remember Him as He remembers you!

Mark 5:34

Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.

You may have only heard about God, or seen the things Christian’s have done over the ages. I want to put it to you, that not every representative of God is a true representation of who God is. Many people have many opinions of me but unless you’ve met me or know me, how can you judge my character?

There are only two choices. Follow Jesus or don’t, but this choice has eternal ramifications.

You have a choice.
