Lev 15

Luke 8

John 15

Luke 17

Luke 23

In Leviticus 15, in the middle of all the regulations the Israelites are to observe to make themselves holy enough to be around God and to enable Him to live in their midst without them being consumed in His presence (fire) comes the chapter about discharged causing uncleanness.

Leviticus is a very misunderstood chapter about Gods protection. He is holy and nothing can come near His holiness without being destroyed. In wanting relationship with the Israelites He needed to make them holy so they could come near Him.

Lev 15. regulations are rules about a women on her period. From verse 19 we see that during this time she is unclean and anyone, even anything that touches her is unclean.

Everyone and everything that she touches must be washed and will be unclean until evening. The woman however remains unclean until the bleeding has stopped. Once the bleeding has stopped she remains unclean for seven days. Then she must make a sacrifice to atone for her uncleanness.

This all seems a bit unfair, but if it’s a week long period you basically get left alone for two weeks which in that time when the women cooked and cleaned and raised the children, a two week holiday every now and then doesn’t seem so bad.

However, in Luke 8 we meet the women with the issue of blood.

Luke 8 begins with Jesus teaching in parables traveling from town to town with his disciples and some women.

He begins with the parable of the sower, and gives the interpretation with the seed being the word of God. This is important as He gives this insight after already healing many people and going on again to heal more people. The word of God is a seed that grows roots deep into our soul and eventually that seed produces something that is seen.

As we move on to v43, it says

a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, and she had spent all she had on doctors, but no one could heal her.

44 she came up behind Him and touched the edge of His cloak and immediately her bleeding stopped.

(Well move on to 47) then the women seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at His feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched Him and how she had been instantly healed.

48 then He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace’.

Not only had she been bleeding for 12 years, which would make anyone physically weak, but she also should not have been in a crowd or touching anyone because as we know from Lev- she is unclean and now so is everyone else in the crowd.

But she understood one very important thing, that in her weakness, her physical weakness and uncleanness that if she could only touch the hem of His cloak she would be healed.

This is a prime example of us in our darkest times, one touch from Jesus is all it takes to make us whole and clean again. He didn’t tell her to go offer the sacrifices like He did in Luke 17 with the 10 healed of Leprosy. Because through Him, the ultimate guilt offering, we are made whole, clean and holy. He fulfilled all the law, now we can go into the temple (presence) without having to remember everything in Leviticus just so we could go to a priest, who then went to God. We can press through the crowd of our thoughts, pains, anxieties, worries, confusion and grief to stand next to Him knowing He calls us daughter and forgives all our sins.

These crowds of pain are often misunderstood as punishment instead of pruning. Jesus said in John 15

I am the true vine, and my Father is the Gardner.

2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, whilst every branch that does bear fruit He prunes (cleans) so that it will be even more fruitful.

3 you are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

Pruning removes the dead of a branch so new, fresh fruit can grow. If Jesus was pruned, how much more so do we need to go through the process.

If you have uncleanness or disease and the word of God is planted in you, the fruit it will bear and that will be seen is healing. The word of God is the Spirit of the touch of Jesus.

Jesus fulfilled the law, even before He died- His word alone made us clean, only after the sacrifice was made would we be clean in Lev! We were already made clean and right once we believed. The day each disciple or follower of Jesus believed was the day they were made right with God. Jesus still went to the cross to prove this love and to go after the 1 leaving the 99. The one, being the sinner on the cross (Luke 23).

Jesus would be willingly crucified on a cross to come and meet you if that’s where you were.

In Daniel 3, there was ‘a son of the Gods’ with the three Hebrew boys. There is another one in the fire, there has always been another one in the fire, and there will always be another one in the fire. One who understand you, who sees you, who you can touch and be made clean and whole.
